About

When I was a high school student in Aomori, Japan, there was a unique local high school math teacher who was also an avid mountain climber. He often shared his mountain climbing experiences during his math classes, talking about his dream of climbing Mount Everest someday in the future.

On occasion, I asked him to take me hiking and climbing mountains. During these activities, he not only imparted valuable lessons about mountain climbing but also shared insights into life and mindset.

About a decade later, he turned his dream into reality by joining a Himalayan Expedition in Kathmandu, Nepal. However, just six months later, tragic news arrived that he had suffered a sudden heart attack and passed away at the base camp, right in the middle of living out his dream. That occurred when I was 28 years old.

He’s always been my role model, and even though he’s no longer around, he’s still very much alive in my heart. I followed in his footsteps and became a high school science teacher. Occasionally I took my students to the mountains, just like him.

In 2000, I made the leap of faith to move to the United States and worked for 8 years teaching as a science teacher at a private school. Then, I decided to set up my own business in Atlanta, Georgia.

While in the USA, I participated in a three-day program, Mt.Rainier Mountaineering School of RMI Expeditions in Washington State. And climbed up Mount Rainier each time successfully.

In 2022, I decided to retire from my own business voluntarily and head back to Japan in March. This retirement and leaving the USA were big deal with me. It brought a whole mix of emotions, from anxiety and excitement of what’s next.

Now, I’m enjoying the great outdoors – camping, hiking, and tackling Japan’s Alps. This is all thanks to the high school teacher,
I am who I am today because of him, and mountain climbing is an encouragement to my life after returning to Japan.

I hope this blog is going to share your go-to for all things mountain climbing in Japan’s Alps, plus tips on outdoor fun, camping, and cultural destinations in cool spots in Japan.

Drop your thoughts below. Let’s keep the good vibes rolling!
